SLW Academy IP Certification Course: For Undergraduate and Graduate School Students in Science and Engineering
This course introduces you to the world of Intellectual Property and will give you a foundational understanding of Intellectual Property in the United States. This course introduces different types of patents, provides an overview of the patent prosecution process, and introduces trademarks.
The course is designed so that you can access and complete the lessons in any order. Each lesson includes a Knowledge Check quiz, and you are allowed to take the quizzes multiple times until you have achieved a passing score of 80% or higher.
Upon completing all of the quizzes with a passing score, you can receive a Certificate of Completion* to document your competency with the content.
We recommend that you begin the course by starting with the Patent Primer lesson. This provides a broad overview of Intellectual Property and will help provide a context for the other lessons in the academy. Once you complete a lesson, use the navigation at the bottom of the page to move to the next (or previous) lesson, or click on the “breadcrumb” menu at the top of the page to return to this course home page.

How certificates are decided
*Your quiz answers are scored automatically. If you score 80% or higher on each of the quizzes for a particular Course, a certificate may be issued automatically. If you disagree with the result, you can appeal to an SLW staff member who can review your quiz and any information you send, and who can change the decision.
